5-Days From Marrakech to Sahara Merzouga Trip:

Day 1: Marrakech – High Atlas – Telouat Kasbah – Ait Ben Haddou – Ounila Valley – Ouarzazate

At 8.30 in the morning, a private 4WD vehicle will pick you up from your Marrakech lodging and drive you through the High Atlas mountains to Ouarzazate. On our route, we’ll pass Tizi Ntichka Port, our nation’s highest point at 2.260 meters.

On the way, we’ll stop at a few viewpoints to take pictures of the picturesque landscapes and Berber villages. After that, we’ll travel a short distance to Telouat Kasbah. You will have some free time after visiting the kasbah, so you can sample some local cuisine.

To get to the ksar (fortified village) of Ait Ben Haddou, where we will visit the renowned Kasbah, we will travel through the Ounila Valley in the afternoon.

Here, you can see small Berber villages and families who live in adobe houses tucked away in the mountains (declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1986).

Famous movies like Gladiator, Obelix, The Mummy, The Jewel of the Nile, Sahara with Penélope Cruz, etc. have all been filmed on this magnificent set.

We’ll travel to Ouarzazate, also known as “The Gate of the Desert,” after visiting the kasbah. At the hotel where we’ll be staying the night, dinner.

Day 2: Ouarzazate – Draa Valley – Merzouga Desert – Camel ride and night in the Berber tent

We’ll head toward the Draa Valley, where one of Morocco longest rivers can be seen, after breakfast. We stop along the way to take pictures and admire the magnificent kasbahs and Berber villages that line the road as well as the Draa valley natural splendors.

After a short break for lunch in Nkob or Alnif, we’ll drive for another two hours until we arrive at the magnificent Merzouga dunes.

“Desert of fine dunes”. There, we will switch to an animal-powered vehicle so that we can travel deep into the desert. When we get to the camp, we set up camp in camel hair tents that resemble those used by nomadic families.

Dinner and the night were spent in the Berber tent beneath a stunning starry sky.

Day 3: Merzouga Desert – Nomads Families – Tisardmin Oasis – Khamlia Village – Erg Chebbi

This is a full day in the Desert. “Date with the dawn” It’s worth getting up early if you’re in the middle of the desert to take in the most breathtaking sunrise you’ve ever seen at the top of a dune close to the camp and appreciate this landscape that is a gift from nature.

We ride camels back to Merzouga after sunrise, where a filling breakfast is waiting for us. The Big Dune of Morocco, which is more than 250 meters high, is located in the Erg Chebbi, a vast extension of the sand desert.

The route that was formerly taken for the “Paris-Dakar” continues after that and ends in the mountains that border Agelia. After stopping at the Tissardmin oasis, where there are still fossil quarries in the area, we continue along a road where we can see nomad settlements and discover their customs.

The next stop will be at a lookout point to consider the Erg Chebbi crater. We will then arrive at Kamilia Village, which is originally from Mali, where we will enjoy a soothing cup of tea while we watch a performance of Gnawa spiritual music.

Transfer to your lodging, then enjoy the afternoon at leisure in the town or on the nearby dunes to watch the sunset. Dinner and a hotel stay are included.

Day 4: Merzouga Desert – Rissani Market – Erfoud Fossil’s – Todra Gorges – Dadés Valley

After breakfast, we leave the desert and travel to Rissani to visit the market (market days are Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday). From there, we head to Erfoud to see the factories that make fossilized marble before continuing to Touroug and Tinjdad palm groves.

We’ll arrive at the Todra Gorges, one of the High Atlas best locations, an hour later. Because of its beauty and high rock sides, the river’s course carved out a canyon with cliff sides that is very well-liked by climbers. Free time to enjoy this beautiful location lunch.

It’s highly recommended to take a quick stroll through the gorges to fully appreciate the beauty of the surroundings. We proceed to the Dadès Valley, also known as the Fig Valley, in the afternoon and stop at the “monkey legs” after passing through Boumalne Dadés. A night and dinner spent at the Dadès Gorges.

Day 5: Dadés Gorges – Roses Valley – Palm Groves of Skoura – High Atlas – Marrakech

From a well-placed lookout in the mountains, enjoy breakfast while taking in the breathtaking views of the Dadès Valley. Admire the kasbahs along the tourist route, including the Skoura palm grove and Roses Valley.

Visit the Kasbah of Taourirt in Ouarzazate, which served as the Marrakech pasha home once, and take an optional tour of a movie studio or museum. After lunch, travel back to Marrakech via the Tizi Ntichka mountain pass, making photo stops along the way.
